2010 Summer Reading Club
to benefit
the "Happy Wheels" cart at MUSC Children' Hospital
Reach for the Stars is a pledge-based reading program and charity bookraiser. The program is designed to reinforce a regular reading habit for kids - even during the summer. We want to keep kids reading after the final school bell rings in June! Children earn books for themselves while raising books for the "Happy Wheels" cart at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston, SC. Wow! What a great way for kids to spend the summer - enjoying reading, learning, and doing a geat thing for other children. This Summer Reading Club can be done in conjunction with your local library's summer reading program; separate reading times are not required.June 21st Kick Off Party! Come to Wannamaker Park in North Charleston, South Carolina for a pizza party wi
th music and fun to pick up your packet and pick out your wish list of books from the book display. Party starts at 1:00 and lasts til 2:00. Book display and packets wll be available until 6:00. Pizza and cool summer treats available while supplies last.
Attendance is not required to participate. Your packet will be mailed to you if you're unable to attend. If you do not live in the Charleston, South Carolina area, you may still participate. All kids across South Carolina and the USA are welcome to join in on the Usborne Summer Reading Club!
Start getting your pledges! Tell grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors about your reading club. Ask them to pledge a dollar amount to reward your reading and to help you raise books for the "Happy Wheels" cart at MUSC.
Start READING!! Commit to read at least 400 minutes over the next three weeks. That's just 30 minutes a day if you read five days each week.

July 19th Turn In Day (Book Wish List, Pledges, & Money) Send your pledge funds in the form of a check or money order made out to Usborne Books. Be sure to include the wishlist of books your child has selected. Your child gets to pick out books equaling 50% of his/her pledge funds. The other 50% will go towards books for the "Happy Wheels" cart. Mail to: Usborne Books, PO Box 3004, Summerville, SC 29483-3004. These need to be postmarked by July 21st. *If you finish your reading early, you may send your wish list and money in before July 19th.
August 9th Reading Celebration! Participating children and their families are invited to our reading celebration and ice cream party. Partcipants will receive their new Usborne books, prizes and awards. They will also get to see ALL the books they raised together for the "Happy Wheels" cart.
Attending the celebration is not required for participation in the program. Celebration will take place on Monday, August 9th at 1:00 pm at Wannamaker Park in North Charleston, SC.
